Student Voices

An arts administration policy class offered by the University of Akron in 2019 provided a significant moment for students to have a hand in shaping policy.

The class creates a space for students to present potential ways to implement the Akron Cultural Plan and engage people around the plan, so it is not just an arbitrary exercise, but something that could be heard by others and influence people in a positive way.

How many other places have decades, if not centuries, of policies that its residents are grappling with—sometimes for good and other times challenged by them?

So this class is really timely, where the students just don’t read about something in a book on how things are done; instead, they live it and provide a dialogue.
