Tallmadge High School AP Art Show

Beginning in 2019, Akron engaged in a city-wide cultural planning process to strengthen the city, advance cultural diversity, and opportunities to create culture and provide vibrant experiences for us all.

One of the public priorities of this cultural plan is to advocate for arts education, career paths, and cultural connections in and out of the classroom.

Local Tallmadge High School AP Art Students showcased their art from May 21st to May 28th. In this video, students talk about their sustained investigations where each student produces a series of sequential visual forms based on a topic of their choice.

The artists featured were Georgia Voss, Morgan Graham, River Ragozine, Riley Murphy, Nina Rodgriguez, and Aviana Miller. Topics range from ‘expectations of teenagers to identify gender and sexuality,’ to ‘climate change,’ to ‘body insecurities.’

“I’ve never done anything this strenuous and involved before in my life. It taught me a lot about how to discipline myself, be kinder to myself along the way, and just take more notice of things around me and how I can use that in my art. ” - Georgia Voss (They/Them)

These sustained investigations gave students the opportunity to learn something new and explore a topic in-depth through artistic expression.

“We talk about finding our why, why we create art, why we want to share this message, why is art an important means of communicating ideas and thoughts. I believe all of the students gained creative skills, technical skills in their chosen medium, confidence in their abilities and a better understanding of visual communication and its application.” - Anna Blasko, Tallmadge High School Art Teacher
