Tuesday Musical’s Annual Scholarships
Tuesday Musical is an anchor arts organization that’s been in Akron for over 130 years. Known for some of the best classical and jazz music performances in the region, its legacy also includes annual scholarships over the past 65 years, as part of its mission for community engagement. Twenty scholarships are given to talented students in music each year.
Amer Hasan, an Oberlin graduate, performer, and Tuesday Musical scholarship recipient, explained how the Tuesday Musical scholarship has impacted his career in music.
“The Annual Tuesday Musical Scholarship was always a highlight for me as an Oberlin student. Getting to compete, and receive feedback from the judicators, and receiving two scholarships this year has helped me as a performer,” Hasan explained.
Tuesday Musical Director Cynthia Snider added that the scholarships give the students a mark of excellence on their resumes. Tuesday Musical presents some of the best classical and jazz musicians in the world, and being able to be recognized is especially important for the scholarship winners.
This fall Tuesday Musical will launch their 134th concert season, which will feature six concerts by world-acclaimed artists. To counteract the bias of classical music, twenty percent of the performers will be people of color.
